18th August 2019 - Landor
In the summer of 2019, following Ben Stokes heroics for England cricket over the summer, the Landor International Golf Course played host to the Danger Golf World Cup for a penultimate time. As the sun rose over the sprawling greens, a sense of anticipation filled the air. This tournament promised to be unique, with the reintroduction of a notorious water hazard: a paddling pool that came into play when players declared their lie as "edible."
The competition was fierce, but it was Italy that emerged as the unexpected victor, securing their first-ever Danger Golf World Cup win. The final match saw them face off against Vatican City, a team that had become all too familiar with the sting of being the beaten finalists.
Alf Lanzetta, beaming with pride, was surrounded by reporters eager for his thoughts on the historic win. With a broad smile, he declared, "This victory is better than my wedding day!" His comment, meant in good humor, captured the euphoria and significance of the moment for him and his team.
The tournament's unique challenges added to the drama. The infamous paddling pool, a seemingly whimsical feature, tested the players' adaptability and skill. Several competitors found themselves knee-deep in water, trying to navigate their way out of the tricky situation when their ball landed in a declared "edible" lie.
As the final ceremony concluded, the Italian team held the trophy high, their faces glowing with pride and joy. The 2019 Danger Golf World Cup would be remembered not just for Italy's historic win, but for the hilarious paddling pool play that scuppered many competitors attempts at glory.
New for DGWC in 2019 was the infmaous paddling pool play. This replaced the hula-hoop play from 2018. If players game spheres were deemed to have found an "edible" lie then said spheres were moved to the paddling pool where competitors would struggle to find relief. A hug fan favourite and classic addition to Danger Golf.
