In the annals of Danger Golf history, the 2017 edition of the Danger Golf World Cup (DGWC) stands out as a particularly enigmatic chapter. Hosted uniquely in Bristol at the prestigious Berkley Square Stadium, this tournament has since become shrouded in mystery, with much of its details fading into the shadows of time. However, a few key highlights have survived, preserving the legacy of this extraordinary event.
One of the most significant aspects of the 2017 DGWC was its fierce competition, driven by a unique circumstance. The tournament coincided with the stag do of Matt Gaskin, one of Danger Golf's founding fathers. This celebration brought together an impressive array of competitors, all determined to make their mark in honor of the occasion. The atmosphere was electric, charged with camaraderie and the spirit of rivalry.
The Berkley Square Stadium proved to be a magnificent venue for the tournament, with its well-maintained greens and vibrant surroundings providing the perfect backdrop for the intense matches. The venue added an air of sophistication and grandeur to the event, elevating the overall experience for both players and spectators. This splendid venue was sourced and secured by Sir Ian Horlock, whose efforts ensured that the 2017 DGWC would be held in a truly memorable location.
As the tournament progressed, the battles on the greens were nothing short of epic. Teams from around the world clashed in a series of unforgettable matches, each vying for the coveted title. Among the notable outcomes, Australia managed to secure a respectable third place, adding another accolade to their Danger Golf resume.
The climax of the 2017 DGWC was the thrilling final match, where Lovely faced off against the Vatican City. The tension was palpable, as both teams showcased their exceptional skills and unwavering determination. In the end, Lovely emerged victorious, claiming the championship and etching their name into the history books.
Though much of the 2017 DGWC remains lost to history, the fragments that remain tell a tale of fierce competition, vibrant celebration, and the enduring spirit of Danger Golf. It was a tournament that not only honored the sport but also celebrated the bonds of friendship and the legacy of its founding fathers, all set against the splendid backdrop of Berkley Square Stadium, thanks to the efforts of Sir Ian Horlock.
Given Sir Gaskin's stag do was being hosted in Bristol it meant that the Danger Gold World Cup had to be moved from it's traditional setting of Landor International. Luckily Sir Ian Horlock was able to find a stadium that was befitting of such a historic occasion - Berkley Square.
